LG TV Screen Problems, No Picture, or Won't Turn On? A Dubai Repair Guide:
LG makes some of the world’s finest televisions — from their flagship OLED panels to their high-value NanoCell and QNED series. But even premium TVs develop faults, and in a city like Dubai, where TVs run for long hours in air-conditioned rooms, certain problems appear more frequently than others.
This guide covers the most common LG TV problems reported by Dubai residents and what professional LG TV repair involves.
Common LG TV Problems in Dubai:
1. Black Screen (TV Powers On But No Picture)
A black screen with sound is one of the most common LG TV complaints. The TV appears to be on — the indicator light is active, you can hear audio — but the screen is completely dark.
The most likely causes are a failed backlight (in LED/LCD models), a faulty T-Con board, or a damaged main board. On OLED models, a black screen is more often a panel or power supply issue.
Quick check: Shine a bright torch at the screen at a close angle in a dark room. If you can faintly see an image, the backlight has failed — not the panel. This is repairable.
2. LG TV Won’t Turn On
If your LG TV shows no signs of life at all — no standby light, no response to the remote or power button — the issue is most likely in the power supply board.
Before calling: Try unplugging the TV for 60 seconds and plugging it back in. Check the socket with another device. Try a different HDMI cable and source. If none of these help, the power board needs professional inspection.
3. Half the Screen Is Dark or Showing Lines
Vertical or horizontal lines running across an LG TV screen, or a portion of the screen that is dark while the rest displays normally, typically indicate a panel fault or a damaged ribbon cable connecting the panel to the main board.
Lines that appear immediately at startup (not only with certain content) are almost always a panel or T-Con board fault. This is repairable on most LG LED models but can be more complex on OLED panels.
4. Picture Quality Issues — Discolouration or Burn-In
LG OLED TVs are particularly susceptible to image retention and burn-in when static elements (such as news tickers, sports scoreboards, or game HUDs) are displayed for extended periods. A permanent ghost image of a logo or UI element on the screen is a sign of OLED burn-in.
Prevention: Use LG’s built-in pixel refresher tool regularly (found in the Picture settings menu). Avoid running static images at high brightness for long periods. Burn-in that has already occurred can sometimes be partially mitigated by a professional panel recalibration.
5. LG Smart TV Software Freezing or Apps Not Loading
LG’s webOS smart platform is generally stable, but software issues do arise — especially after failed system updates or when the TV’s internal storage becomes fragmented.
Fix to try first: Go to Settings > Support > General > Reset to Initial Settings. Note that this will erase your app logins and settings. If the TV freezes before you can reach this menu, a factory reset can also be triggered from the back panel button on most models.
If a software reset does not resolve freezing, the internal NAND flash storage or main board may have developed a hardware fault.
6. No Sound on LG TV
Sound issues on LG TVs are most commonly caused by incorrect audio output settings rather than hardware failure. Check that the audio output is set to Internal Speakers (not HDMI ARC or Optical) if you are not using a soundbar. Also check that the mute function is not active via the remote.
If the audio settings are correct and the TV still produces no sound, the audio processor on the main board or the speakers themselves may have failed.
Is It Worth Repairing an LG TV in Dubai?
The answer depends on the type of panel and the fault. As a general guide:
- Backlight failure (LED/LCD): Almost always worth repairing — typically AED 250–500
- T-Con or main board replacement: Usually worth repairing on TVs under 5 years old
- OLED panel replacement: Only worth repairing if the TV is high-value (65″ and above) and relatively new
- Software issues: Almost always resolvable at low cost
Our technicians will give you an honest repair vs replace recommendation before any work starts.
